Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine
I am currently a Lecturer at Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and a Principal Investigator of competitively funded JSPS KAKENHI research projects. KAKENHI project 25K15335 was awarded while I was affiliated with RIKEN, my former institution; I subsequently moved to Tohoku University and continue to lead the project as Principal Investigator. My research focuses on medical artificial intelligence and biomedical informatics, including the integration of clinical data, medical images, pathology, and molecular information for biomedical discovery and next-generation medicine.
Research Group / Project Team
Research activities led by Junya Iwazaki as Principal Investigator, including the active JSPS KAKENHI project 25K15335 and its funded project team with three Co-Investigators. The group page provides links to the official KAKEN and NII research records for the PI and project members.
Research Areas
Machine-learning methods for integrating and analyzing heterogeneous clinical and biomedical data.
Natural language processing for extracting, structuring, and integrating information from electronic medical records.
AI-based analysis of histopathology images, including multimodal and generative approaches.
Computational approaches connecting tissue morphology, spatial molecular measurements, and biological context.
Principal Investigator Record
The official NII KAKEN researcher record lists my current 2026 affiliation as Lecturer, Graduate School of Medicine, Tohoku University, and records two competitively funded projects for which I serve or served as Principal Investigator. Project 25K15335 was awarded during my former affiliation with RIKEN; the KAKEN project page therefore retains RIKEN as the research institution recorded at the time of the award.
